MARTINBOROUGH

SCHOOL CONCERT LAST NIGHTS PERFORMANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Martinborough School's annual concert was held in the Town Hall last night, before a large and enthusiastic audience. The items were short and bright and most entertaining. The verse speaking, singing and dancing items were presented by groups .of pupils in school uniform. Coloured spotlights were played on the folk dancing which created an effective scene. Two short stories without words were most humorous. The first, “The Dentist,” was acted by Alyson Coutts. Mary Burch, Dorothy Rofe, Glyn Rowlands. Marie O'Donald, Arthur Neilson and Colin Shore. The players in the second presentation. "The Thief were Rodney Laurence. Charlie Skill. Margaret Colton and Barry Cook. Two plays were presented by pupils of the Secondary School. "Invasion,” a tragedy in three acts, was feelingly played. The characters were taken by Leonard Hoare. Elsie Casely, Kenneth Busch. Bonnie Boyd, Peter Craig. Alistair McLeod. Betty Blackwell. Ruth Small. In the comedy, "The Dear Departed,” the actors were Margery Mason. Wilma Herrick. Helen Mason. Ronald Mills. Dennis Duffy and Roy Munn. During the performance the chairman of the school committee. Mi H. L. Griffiths, presented swimming certificates and bronze medallions to pupils who had won them during last summer. He also took the opportunity of appealing to the public to suppoit the efforts being made to raise funds Impublic baths. Special thanks were tendered Mr Chas Michell for his great help in arranging lighting and staging effects, and to parents and others who had loaned costumes and effects for the production of the plays.
