4. GREATER LONDON FIGURES. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, August 14. The whole urban agglomeration of Greater London, which was 6.500,000 in 1901. is estimated at 8,655.000 in 1937. compared with 7,000.000 in New York. If Greater London is taken to include the still larger area served by the London Passenger Transport Board, its population would be 9.700.000. The figures reveal a continuing migration of population to districts beyond the administrative county. The population of the country was at the highest in 1901, when it was 4.536.267. Since then it has fallen sleadilv. and in 1938 it was 4,062,800.
