4 FORTY-FOUR HOUR STANDARD By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY. August 15. The Federal Arbitration Court today laid down the principle that in general a 44-hour working week should be the standard for Australian industry. Union secretaries say only a few isolated groups already work more than 44 hours, but the Court's decision would affect the maritime industry; in which seagoing workers averaged 56 hours a week.
