WAIRARAPA COMPETITIONS.
The fixtures and referees for Saturday’s Rugby games in the Wairarapa are as follow:—
Senior (Redmond Cup competition): Red Star v Gladstone, at Gladstone. Mr H. J. McKenzie; Carterton v Old Boys, at Carterton, Mr W. Grantham; Greytown v Masterton. at Greytown. Mr C. Kendall.
Junior: Wairarapa v Wellington, Memorial No. 1 at 2.30, Mr E. Grantham. Thirds: Carterton v Featherston, at Featherston. 2.30, Mr E. Miller; Martinborough v Red Star, at Martinborough, at 2.30. Mr J. Power; Masterton v Dalefield, Rugby Park No. 1. at 2.30. Mr P. Reid; College v Gladstone, to be played at the end of the second round. Fourths: Carterton v Featherston, at Featherston, Rev Holland; College v Masterton, Memorial No. 1, at 1.30, Mr B. Hurley. MERRITT SHIELD. WIN FOR PALMERSTON NORTH. (By Telegrapn—Press Association.) WANGANUI, August 15. Rugby of a high standard for primary school boys was seen on Spriggens Park today, when teams from the Marist Brothers’ School, Palmerston North, played Marist Brothers’ School, Wanganui, for the Merritt Shield. The trophy was won by Palmerston. North by 12 points to 8 . The visiting side has an unbeaten record in school matches this season. Wanganui primary schools will be represented by the following team in the annual quadrangular Rugby tournament, which will start in Masterton on Saturday:—Leslie Head, Leonard Head. R. Cargill, J. Wakeling, S. Bebarfield, J. Stent and J. Clemensen (Intermediate School), K. Owen, R. Goldthorpe, A. Webby. I. Roljs and R. Kendrick (Wanganui East), G. Price and A. Bostock (Gonville), E. Takarangi, C. Savage and C. Anderson (Marist), L. Hussey (Westmere), K. Lett and G. Tauri (Castlecliff). The team will be accompanied by Messrs J. C. Ward and L. O’Connor. INTER-SCHOOL GAME. PALMERSTON BEATS LEVIN. LEVIN, August 15. In an interesting game the second fifteen of Palmerston North High School beat that of Levin District High School by 10 points to nil in their annual Rugby match played on Levin Domain today. MOASCAR CUP TOURNEY.. PALMERSTON N., August 15. The Moascar Cup quadrangular Rugby tournament will be played on the Palmerston North Showgrounds on Thursday and Saturday. The teams entered are Te Aute Maori Boys’ College, St. Patrick’s College, Silverstream, Mt. Albert Grammar School, Auckland, and Palmerston North Boys’ High School.
