Christchurch, writing from London recently. "This is the third time 1 have heard the sirens in operation. They appear to be tested frequently to make certain that they are operating efficiently. Military aeroplanes are whirring overhead night and day while workmen are busy in most parks constructing concrete air raid shelters underground. Even in the basement of New Zealand House in the Strand, two gas-proof doors have been constructed and are placed in position for use in an emergency."
