SIXTY CRUISERS

ON BRITISH EFFECTIVE LIST BELFAST JOINS HOME FLEET. ADDITIONAL SHIPS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.14 a.m.) RUGBY, August 14. The new cruiser Belfast has sailed from Portsmouth on her first commission. She is joining the Home Fleet, at present in Scottish waters, and ’replacing the Glasgow, which is to be transferred to the South American station. The Belfast brings the total number of British cruisers on the effective list to sixty. Nineteen more cruisers are under construction and another four authorised in the 1939 programme will be ordered shortly.
