LATEST INNOVATION
HIP-SLIMMING SKIRT. Swing skirts are going well this season, both the eight-gored and the pleated variety. The latest innovation is a special hip-slirnming skirt cut on the cross with a smooth hip band, from which, without a join, seams start, and let out five inches below in pleats. These should successfully overcome complaints of customers who fancy the fuller skirt, but are frightened of its broadening effect!
Oatmeal, cream and beige, throe natural tones given prominence in the Paris openings. are proving good shades for skirts in the bulk market — suitable for spectator sports, country wear, etc. The next-best selling fashion colour is "Clora,” a subtle tone of fuchsia, another indication that the public won't let this colour die! Controversy over skirt lengths continues, but skirt manufacturers arc choosing 27, 28 and 29 inches as their lengths this season.
In model collections some skirts arc as much as twenty inches from the ground. Others are thirteen and fourteen inches, so that lengths are most confusing, and need careful watching for future developments.
