ON DUNEDIN TAXI-DRIVER

An alarming experience befell a taxi-driver. Mr N. A. J. Fa ire lough, about 5 o'clock on Saturday evening when ho was driving his car with a man and woman passenger down Ryehill Street Caversham. It is aiioged that the two passengers. wno were sitting in the rear scat, had been drinking and became involved in an argument with the driver. The climax came when the man climbed over the back scat and assaulted Mr Fairclough and forced him from the car while the vehicle was still moving, trying to take control himself. He was unable to manage the vehicle, however, and Mr Fairclough, standing on the running-board, and unable to get inside again, jumped off as the car's speed increased to 35 miles an hour down hill toward a steep bank at the junction of Ryehill Street with Nottingham Crescent. The male passenger also jumped from the moving vehicle as he saw it was about to go over the bank. The woman passenger, however, still remained in the car when it took the plunge. The vehicle was very badly damaged. and the woman, who was married and camo from Kaitangata, was taken to hospital suffering from injuries to her head. MINER IN COURT. CHARGED AND REMANDED. DUNEDIN. This Day. In the police court this morning. Patrick Rogers, a Kaitangata miner, aged 31. was charged with assaulting Neville Fairclough., and was remanded.
