WATER SPEEDING
SIR M. CAMPBELL’S NEW BOAT. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. Augusl 12. The design of Sir Malcolm Campbell’s new racing boat Bluebird 11.. which is leaving London today for Conister Water, in the Lakes District, where he may attempt to exceed his water speed record of 130.9 miles an hour, departs from that of its predecessor in several feature 1
Its hull is fitted wit’ sponsons (or flaps projecting from 're side of the boat, a common feature on flying boats) and a rear step. The result is suspension at three points, which the designers hope wiU offer greater stability and less resistance to water speeds. An 1800 h.p. Rolls-Royce engine is fitted at present, but if the tests justify it another engine of 2300 h.p. will be installed.
