BOMB EXPLOSIONS
IN FRONT OF JAPANESE SHIPPING OFFICE. NINE CHINESE INJURED. SHANGHAI, August 12. An explosion of two hand-grenades in front of a Japanese shipping office in West Hongkew in the British defence sector injured nine Chinese, including a constable. Police threw a cordon round the area. USELESS TO CONTINUE ACCORDING TO JAPANESE DELEGATE. INSISTENCE ON ECONOMIC DEMANDS. (Received This Day. 10 a.m.) TOKIO, August 13. The Domei Agency says the Japanese military representatives are returning to Tientsin, for talks on Monday. Ma-jor-General Muto, who is the principal army delegate, interviewed, said: “It is useless to continue, because it is impossible to agree to Britain's request to separate the question of policing Tientsin from the broader economic issues.” SHANGHAI QUIET (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) SHANGHAI, August 13. Precautions thus far have resulted in a quiet observance of the second anniversary of the outbreak of hostilities.
