W.F.C.A. GOLF TOURNEY
GATHERING AT RIVERSIDE LINKS, SECOND ANNUAL FIXTURE. During the weekend the second annual golf tournament of the staff of the Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-op. Association was played on the Riverside Golf Links. Masterton. In spite of a very cold wind blowing off the snowcapped mountains, forty-one competitors faced the starter (Mr E. W. Perry). Visitors were present from Dannevirke. Pahiatua. Eketahuna. Carterton. Greytown and Martinborough. In the morning the competitors played a medal round over 12 holes which resulted in a win for Miss L. Wells and Mr F. E. Wells (Masterton). In the afternoon. in a stableford competition over 18 holes, the winners were Mrs R. Mills (Pahiatua) 31 points, and Mr M. Fredrickson (Pahiatua) 38 points. After afternoon tea, an approaching and putting competition was held and resulted in a win for Mrs F. E. Wells (Masterton) after playing off with Mrs J. H. Cunningham (Masterton). In the men’s competition L. Quinn (Greytown) defeated J. Dickson (Eketahuna).
The prizes won during the day were rresented to the winners by Mrs J. 11. Cunningham. In conjunction with the golf tournament. a girls basketball team journeyed through from Dannevirke to play a match with a team comprised of members of the Masterton branch. After a very even match the visitor*proved the winners by 8 points to 4. The success of the tournament was "really due to the efforts of Mr Dick. Costello of the Masterton staff.
