SPORTS ON HOLDSWORTH
WELLINGTON INTERCLUB SKI CONTESTS.
CONDITIONS RATHER TRICKY. The annual Wellington interclub skiing contests were held on Mt. Holdsworth during the weekend. Events were conducted for men and women and it was stated last night that conditions were fairly icy on Saturday. Good use was made of the sheltered valleys for practice purposes. There were heavy falls of snow and hail on Saturday night and at daybreak yesterday snow was down to the foothills. Men competitors made two runs on a slalom course over tricky snow, and women competitors made one run over the same course. Results were as follow: —
Men: A. Thomas (Hutt Valley Tramping Club), 29.6secs., 1; B. Bibby (Aorangi Ski Club), 32.7secs., 2; S. E. Davis (Tararua Tramping Club), 43.1 sec., 3; H. Lang (Victoria University College Tramping Club), 45.5secs., 4; I. Powell (Hutt Valley), 57.6sec., 5; F. Eggers (Hutt Valley), 71.6sec., 6.
Women: Mrs A. Thomas (Hutt Valley), 56sec., 1; Miss S. Storey (Ruapehu Ski Club), 2.44. 2; Miss E. Smith (Hutt Valley), 3.25, 3; Miss M. Broughton (Tararua Tramping Club), 3.59sec., 4. Tributes were paid to the work of the officials who conducted the contests.
