DAVIS CUP CONTEST. AUSTRALIA v CUBA. By Telegraph—P- -s Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) SEABRIGHT. August 11. In the Davis Cup zone final against Cuba Quist and Bromwich defeated Morales and Nodarse 6/1, 6/0, 6/3. The Australians lost only seven points in the last five games. In the second set Bromwich was erratic at the net but Quist smashed well. The Cubans rallied in the third set but a break came in the sixth game when Bromwich woke up and blasted two beautiful two-handers for placements to break Morales's service.

The Australians clearly outclassed the Cubafis. Although the games frequently went to deuce before being pulled out, this was due chiefly to Bromwich’s inability to hit properly. Bromwich outed and netted too often, forcing Quist, who was in his best form, to carry the brunt of the play. The Cubans, who are just average players, were without any outstanding strokes and seemed to have no plan of attack, scoring almost entirely on the Australians' errors. In the first set, Morales held the service in the first game but the Australians took the rest fairly easily, although five went to deuce. Quist made the majority of the points. Hopman told the Australian Associated Press: "I am glad we are a step nearer the cup. Now we can get down to serious training for the Yugoslav boys. We need more first-class competition." Nodarse commenting on the play, said: “The Australians were too good for us, but Bromwich will have to improve overhead if Australia expect to win the cup. They were too weak today.” WILL NOT DEFAULT. YUGOSLAVIA TO VISIT U.S.A. (Received This Day. 9.40 a.m.) NEW YORK. August 11. The United States Lawn Tennis Association has just received a cable stating that Yugoslavia was coming to the United States next week thus ending the fears of defaulting through lack of funds to make the trip. RYE TOURNAMENT MISS STAMMERS DEFEATED. AN ALL AMERICAN FINAL. (Received This Day. 10 a.m.) RYE, August 11. Mrs. Fabyan (U.S.A.) defeated Miss K. Stammers (Britain). 6'l, 6/2 in an amazingly easy fashion. A gallery of nearly one thousand were stunned to see the British player suffer the most lop-sided defeat ever inflicted in an international competition. Miss Stammers attempted to come to the net repeatedly but Mrs. Fabyan stopped her with lobs and passing shots. Miss A. Marble (U.S.A.) defeated Mme. Mathieu (France).' 6/3, 7/5. These results assure an all American final.
