IN TRADE WITH CANADA POSITION DISCUSSED BY MINISTERS. TREATY RENEWED MEANTIME FOR A YEAR. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. OTTAWA, August 10. Canada and New* Zealand have agreed to extend the existing trade treaty by another year. This was announced after a conference today between the New Zealand Minister of Finance, Mr W. Nash, and the Canadian Minister of Trade and Commerce, Mr W.,D. Euler. Messrs Nash and Euler issued statements recognising that something should be done about the trade balance, but indicating that an effective plan to bring this about had not yet been evolved.
Mr Nash gave an undertaking that New Zealand, as the circumstances permit, will do her utmost by relaxation of the restrictions to ensure maximum expansion of the trade with Canada consistent with the maintenance of sound economic conditions in New Zealand.
Mr Euler recognised that the scope for enlarging New Zealand imports to Canada is limited by the few products New Zealand has available, but he expressed his willingness to* examine means .whereby the Canadian purchases of New Zealand products could be increased.
