FEATHERSTON COUNTY

MEETING OF COUNCIL QUESTION OF WANDERING STOCK HOSPITAL LEVY INCREASED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council was held at Martinborough today. Those present were: Mr A. B. Martin (chairman). Councillors R. W. Matthews. Q. Donald. Smith, J. McLeod. J. C. Bidwill and L. J. Thompson. The Greytown Borough Council advised that it had decided to erect a re p room as a local centennial memorial for Greytown, and requested a donation as the room would be of benefit to county residents. The matter was held over till the September meeting of the council. The Collector of Customs, Wellington. wrote advising that a license could not be issued to import a seal mixing machine from Australia. —It was decided to wi'ite to the Minister of Highways in an c-ndeavouF to have the license granted. The Main Highways Board advised that in approximately a month it hoped to have available for general use a printed standard specificator for a light and cheaper type of seal coat to be applied direct on macadam roads without a prior prime coat. The matter was referred to the engineer.

The Wairarapa Hospital Board wrote stating that the County's contribution for the ensuing year would bo £6.103 2s. compared with £5.512 4s lOd last year.

A letter was received from the national art gallery asking whether or not the county would welcome an exhibition in its town. The letter was received.

The County Clerk was granted permission to take action against owners of wandering stock whether or not they were first offenders. At present it is necessary for the owner of wandering stock to be caught three times within three months before being proceeded against.

The County Clerk was granted permission to attend an executive meeting of the Wellington district branch of the New Zealand Institute of County Clerks at Palmerston North on August 23 The ranger reported having impounded 15 head of stock and having registered 36 dogs.
