DEPENDENT ON WORLD EVENTS BRITISH MINISTER’S SURVEY. NEED OF NEW POLICY IN SOME QUARTERS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Auguct 9. The prospects for further general economic recovery depend on the international situation, declared the Minister of Supply. Mr Leslie Burgin, speaking at Tyneside. He added that there appeared at the moment to be no sign of that very substantial alteration in policy in certain quarters which alone could bring about an improvement and thereby make possible some reduction in Britain’s defence preparations. In a final allusion to the issue of peace or war the Minister said: "We have, at any rate, made our position clear, and we can face the future with that fortitude and resolution which comes from a clear conscience and daily-increasing strength.”
