General von Brauchitsch, in a speech made at a meeting of munition workers and broadcast throughout Germany, said: "I can give my sacred assurance as Commander-in-Chief and one of the Fuhrer’s closest associates than the Fuhrer will never lightly set the lives of German men and women at stake, but if some day the Fuhrer demands the final and highest task from us, we can be sure that" there is no other way out, but that it is an unalterable necessitj’ for the preservation of our people.”
