CENTRAL SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Masterton Central School was held last night. Mr W. R. Nicol presided in the absence of the chairman, Mr J. E MeV. Calwell. There were also present Messrs C. J. Braggins, A. B. Dixon, J. H. Cole, A. J. Gibbs and F. A.'Wesney. The headmaster, Mr E. G. Coddington, submitted a very satisfactory report, showing the attendances to be: Main school roll number 509; average attendance (tour weeks), 461; percentage 90. East school, roll number 72; average attendance 59.5; percentage 82. The attendance had been slightly lower during the later part of July owing to bad weather.
Mr Coddington also reported that the recent display of arts and crafts work was a great success. A selection had been made of articles to be sent to the Centennial Exhibition. Although only a comparatively meagre selection had been made, 25 exhibits of craft work would go from Central and five from the East school. This was considered highly satisfactory by the committee, and it was also gratifying to know that the headmaster could report a successful concert in conjunction with the display.
Messrs Calwell. Braggins and Boocroft were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month by rotation.
