VISIT OF AUSTRALIAN TEAM TO MASTERTON.

MEETING TO DISCUSS RAISING OF FUNDS.

A meeting of the management committee of the Wairarapa Cricket Association was held last night to consider xhe forthcoming visit to Masterton, early next year, of an Australian cricket team. Mr G. Peterson presided. The secretary, Mr T. E. Handcock, reported that the Australian cricket touring team would be playing a match in Masterton on February 6 and 7, 1940. The question of raising finance was fully discussed, and it was decided to call a general meeting of all cricketers to be held in the A. and P. Rooms on Monday, August 21, to consider the matter. The following suggestions are to be brought forward: —(1) Art union; (2) gala day at opening of the cricket season at Park Oval, in conjunction with the Interhouse Girls, and Athletic Club, to be followed in the evening by a dance; (3) picture theatre scheme. Mr J. Renner kindly offered to dress and donate a doll to be raffled. Mr Renner was given full authority from the executive to start a subscription list towards financing the visit of the Australian touring team. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Renner for his generous offer in coming forward to assist the executive in raising finance, and also for the do-nation-of a doll.
