A man appeared in court, and when the magistrated imposed a fine of 20 shillings, the man pleaded for a reduction on the grounds of poverty. “What arc you?" asked the magistrate. “A draper, your worship," was the reply. “Then I will make it 19 shillings and 11 pence halfpenny.” answered the magistrate.
