GOLF COMPETITIONS BEST BOGEY CARDS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Playing on the Taratahi links on Saturday the following were the best cards returned in a bogey competition —D. Taylor all square. R. Harrington 1 down. F. Hill 1 down. C. K. Goodin 2 down, Geo Brown 2 down, A. Lane 2 down, Geo Riggs 3 down, A. Krahagen 4 down. in a match for the Hill and Hughes Buttons. Steele and Forbes retained the trophies by defeating Whitburn and Riggs 2 up. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Jas Fisher, of Clareville. returned to Carterton on Saturday after a motor holiday spent in the Taranaki district. The funeral of the late Mrs E. A. Gray, of Parkvale, took place on Friday afternoon, when there was a very large attendance of relatives and friends. The services at the deceased s late residence and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev W. F. Stent, Vicar of St Mark’s Anglican Church. The pall bearers were Messrs Alfred Gray (Greytown), Alan Gray (Greytown), Maurice Gray (Greytown), S. Fraser (Palmerston North). A. Harland (OtaneL and E. Harland (Carterton). Many beautiful floral emblems were sent. Football Match. A game was played on the Cartel ton Showgrounds on Saturday between the North and South Wairarapa school teams, being for the purpose of enabling the school teachers to select a Wairarapa team to play in the annual schools' tournament which will commence this week. North won easily. Hockey Games. Carterton junior A team played against College Old Boys on Carrington Park on Saturday and were the better team by 5 goals to 2. Old Boys played with 8 men. Messrs V. Sayer and A. Adams were referees. Carterton junior B team played a team of Greytown Boy Scouts and were beaten by 4 goals to 1. Mr A. Sayer controlled the game. At Carterton on Saturday Wesley (Masterton) defeated Dalefield juniors by 5 goals to 1. Mr A. Sayer refereed. 'North Wairarapa beat South Wairarapa at Carterton on Saturday in a fast game by 3 goals to 1. Messis Geo Hayne and A. Adams controlled the game. SAVAGE CLUE RETURNED SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED. On Saturday evening the Carterton Savage Club entertained members of the Carterton R.S.A. to a complimentary Korero. The gathering waS most enjoyable and an excellent programme was staged by members of the Savage Club, being greatly enjoyed by the guests of whom there were between 40 and 50 present. This is the second year the Savage Club members have entertained the R.S.A. and the lattei greatly appreciate the hospitality extended to them. A first class supper was provided. Personals. The friends of Mrs Earl Nicolson, of Lower Hutt, who is an inmate of Croydon Hospital suffering from pleurisy, is progressing favourably. The Rev W. F. Stent is confined to his bed with a severe cold. P. & A. Ball Tonight. The annual ball of the P. and A. Society will be held in the King's Theatre. Carterton tonight. Complete arrangements have been made in connection with the ball which should bo a greater success than usual. A large combined committee is very busy today making the final arrangements. Udy's orchestra will provide the music. The supper is in the hands of a ladies' committee and this is a guarantee that there will be nothing wanting in this connection.
