RIVER EROSION
NATIONAL ACTION NEEDED ATTEMPT TO ELIMINATE OVERLAPPING. BILL TO BE BROUGHT DOWN THIS SESSION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 6. _ ‘■River erosion in New Zealand is becoming such a problem that unless it is tackled on a national scale our heritage will be washed out to sea.” —This statement was made by. the Minister of Public Works (Mr R. Semple), this morning to a deputation. The Minister said that a Bill designed to eliminate overlapping of river control was in process of being drafted. “Whether it reaches the Statute Book this session,” said Mr Semple, “depends on the reception it receives from those whom it is designed to serve. If there is controversy and a wide difference of opinion, the Bill will be held up, but it will go through if we get maximum co-operation from the local bodies concerned, and not a lot of friction as the result of stupid j ealousiesT
