ART UNION WINNER FORMER RESIDENT OF NIREAHA. (“Times-Age” Special.) The winner of the first prize in the Golden Dawn art union, Mr T. E. Astwood, is a former resident of Nireaha and who later was farming near Mt Messenger, Taranaki, but who is now a resident of Waitara, married Miss Emily Stewart, a daughter of Mr and Mrs Andrew Stewart, and a son is a senior assistant in the Nireaha dairy factory. NIREAHA DAIRY FACTORY TO OPEN ON MONDAY. The Nireaha dairy factory will open for the season on Monday. CARD TOURNAMENT ODD FELLOWS IN LEAD. In the weekly card tournament held by the Fire Brigade and Friendly Societies the Odd Fellows and Druids met. and the result was a win for the former by 29 games to 15. The Druids proved too strong for the Fire Brigade. The position of the teams now is: Odd Fellows 14 points, Druids 12, Foresters 4. and Fire Brigade 2. BUSH RUGBY TEAM LEFT ON TOUR SOUTH. Under the management of Mr S. 01liver, the Bush representative Rugby team left Pahiat.ua yesterday for its tour of the South Island. The team is: Backs: W. Twentyman (Hukanui), R. Fergus (Mangatainoka), T. Upston (Mangatainoka). The captain is A. Mahoney, and E. Lett is vice-captain. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT KAIPARORO. At the August meeting of the Kaiparorb Women’s Institute Mrs C. Burton presided. Arrangements were finalised for the Institute dance. Mrs Cecil Seymour gave an interesting talk on First Aid. Mrs C. Welch thanked the speaker and a vote of thanks to Mrs Seymour was carried by acclamation. The results of the competitions were as follow: Best flower of the month. Miss Parry (winter rose) 1, Mrs Burton (japonica) 2. Hand-made handkerchief, Miss A. Dick 1, Miss E. Dick 2. Lamingtons, Mrs Braddick 1, Mrs Jim Dick 2. Games Mrs Jim Dick 1, Mrs G. Hansen 2. Miss Saunders gave a humorous recitation which was much appreciated. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Falkner and G. Hansen. y MINIATURE RIFLES ARRANGEMENTS FOR MATCH. The Carterton Miniature Rifle Club is arranging an inter-club shoot against Eketahuna at Eketahuna which will be fired shortly.
