RANFURLY SHIELD
OTAGO-SOUTHI.AND GAME I ODAY. INTEREST IN INVERCARGILL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL. This Day. Following on the postponement of the Ranfurly Shield match last Saturday. interest flagged considerably, but yesterday it revived and this morning greatly increased following on the arrival of large crowds from Otago and all parts of Southland. Over three thousand people arrived by special trains from Dunedin, while hundreds travelled by car. The scenes in the city streets are reminiscent of Christmas eve. Good-natured banter passed between rival supporters of the two teams. A slight rain was experienced last night, but the fact that the ground was covered with hay will mean that the area will be fairly dry for the game, which it is expected will be witnessed by a record crowd. The morning gave promise of a good day. as the sun shone at intervals. but towards one o'clock, when a large crowd was wending its way parkwards, the sky again became overcast, threatening rain. No changes have so far been announced in either team.
