ARRESTS IN SPAIN
REPUBLICANS ACCUSED OF MURDER REPORTS OF WIDESPREAD UNREST. MASS EXECUTIONS DAILY. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.10 a.m.) HENDAYE, August 3. The arrest of six former Republican militiamen for the murder of Major Gabaldon Irurzun, who was Inspector of the Madrid police, provides a climax to reports of widespread political unrest, summary executions and shooting affrays between Monarchists, Falangists and Republicans. The militiamen are reported to have ambushed Major Irurzun’s car, also killing the chauffeur. Mass executions are stated to be carried out daily in Madrid. General Franco is doing his utmost to stifle the news of the trouble, but Senor Suner’s summoning to Burgos of Senor Yague, hitherto believed to have been arrested, and two other highplaced officials is believed to foreshadow a Government reshuffle.
