ADDINGTON SALE.

FAT CATTLE IN DEMAND

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. August 3. Yesterday's live stock market in Addington was the most important of the year, as the fat stock show was held in conjunction with it. A large proportion of the store sheep was poorconditioned ewes which sold at from 9s 3d to' Ils 6d. A pen of two-tooth ewes made 16s. and sound-mouthed ewes to Ils 6d. A small pen of ewes and.good lambs at foot realised 9s Id. Two-tooth wethers sold at up to I3s 6d. About 30 spring lambs were forward, but about half were late hoggets. The sale was brisk for genuine spring lambs, which made about 14d a lb. About 8000 fat sheep came forward. the largest entry for many years. Ewes advanced Is 6d a head for better sorts, but wethers sold somewhat irregularly. The sale continued till a late hour, with an easing in the final stages. Show wethers realised to 3s, extra prime heavy to 40s, prime heavy, 29s to 345, prime medium 25s to 28s 6d, i lighth to 21s; show ewes to 44s 4d, extra prime heavy to 335, prime heavy, 25s to 295, prime medium, 20s to 245, light to 15s Gd. Prize cattle were sold before the ordinary sale. The champion bullock, an Aberdeen Angus-Hereford cross, made £27 10s, and a massive Shorthorn £35. Prices mostly ranged from £l9s to £24 10s.

The entry in the ordinary fat cattle sale was about 750. The sale was keen from the outset, best cows and heifers improved by up to 20s a head. A good dca of better class beef sold at 43s Gd a 1001 b. Extra heavy steers made up to £l9 17s Gd, prime heavy, £l6 10s to £l7 10s, prime medium, £l4 15s to £l6 10s, lighth £8 to £11; extra prime heifers to £l6 2s 6d, prime £ll 10s to £l3, medium £9 10s to £ll, light to £9; extra prime cows to £l5 12s! Gd, prime £9 15s to £l2 ss, medium £7 15s to £9 ss, light to £7 10s.

Porkers showed a rise of 2s 6d a head and values for baconers were slightly higher than last week’s. Ordinary choppers met the best market this season. Porkers realised from 34s Gd to £3 3s Gd, the average price a lb being 7.)d to B,jd; and baconers sold at 59s Gd to £5 4s Gd, the average price a lb. being 6.]d to 6i)d.
