“FAMILY AFFAIRS”

LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY'S THIRD PRODUCTION. “Family Affairs.” which is to be presented by the Masterton Little Theatre Society in the Opera House next Tuesday and Wednesday, was first produced in the Ambassador’s Theatre, London, in August, 1934, Lilian Braithwaite playing the lead. The choice of “Family Affairs” is in keeping with the society's aim of presenting firstclass entertainment, as was so evident in the last two major productions. Mrs N. Barrer, as “Lady Madehurst.” the predominant character of the play takes the part of mother of a large family, and as such exercises her authority on all members of the family and relatives as well. Mr M. M. Simpson as “Herbert,” her successful business son, shows distinct contrast of characterisation as between himself and “Harvey." played by Mr Gilbert C. Gaze,* whose loyalty to his mother has kept him at home. Miss Madge Kane as Sarah, her daughter, and Mrs M. Jordan, daughter-in-law, again 'show distinct differences of character. With the inclusion of her sister, eldest son. a grandson and wife, secretary, maid and last but not least a “scarlet woman,” the story unfolds itself at times into subtle humour, contrasted by deep and sympathetic feeling. The box plan is at Steele and Bull's (Nimtho’E). 1
