ELECTRIC POWER

FOR KOPUARANGA DISTRICT. MEETING OF SETTLERS. (Special to “Times-Age.”) A meeting of the Kopuaranga settlers was held in the hall on Monday night for the purpose of discussing the reticulation of the district. A large number were present, and apologies for absence were received from several others. Mr G. Brown, secretary-man-ager of the Wairarapa Power Board, and Mr Keenan, the engineer, attended, accompanied by Messrs J. Colquhoun and F. Daniell, members of the board. Mr C. C. Jackson was in the chair, and explained the object of the meeting. After introducing the visitors, he called on Mr Colquhoun to explain what the Power Board had to offer. Mr Daniell then spoke and went very fully into the scheme, explaining what had been done in other districts and how the scheme could be applied locally. Mr Brown referred to the financial side, and explained how the board was prepared to assist. Mr Keenan, who had prepared a plan of the district, went into the cost of erecting the lines, wiring the buildings and numerous labour-saving appliances that could be used on the farm and in the home. After several questions had been answered, it was decided to form a committee to go into the matter of guarantees and confer with the board. The committee elected was: —Messrs S. J. Clarke, E. C. Cottle, I. Jackson, J. Knight, H. M. McKenzie and E. J. Wright. Mr Jackson thanked the members and officials of the Power Board for attending, and expressed a hope that their visit would not have been in vain.-

A vote of thanks was passed to the chairman. At the conclusion the committee held a short meeting at which 'Mr S. J. Clarke was elecied chairman.
