DEVELOPING THE PLANET
MOBILISATION OF EARTH’S RESOURCES.
The planet seemed at times to bo too small for its inhabitants, said the French Ambassador, M. Corbin, speaking at the dinner of the Royal Geographical Society in London. Today, when the regular ow of emigration was at. a standstill, the exodus of populations went forward in conditions oi' the greatest disorder and confusion. Quite recently, when international deliberations took place on the pressing refugee problem, we were able to realise, independently of political obstacles, of what great assistance would be a more complete knowledge of those regions which remained to be colonised. The greater part of economic difficulties from which they suffered would tonly bo solved by the prosperity of in their turn so many centres of consumption and offering an outlet to an new human agglomerations, becoming ever-increasing production. Was it not part of tlie function of geographers, by the disinterested study of physical and climatic conditions, to prepare die work of the engineers and mine prospectors, to provide for the establishment of new cultures, in a word, to prepare the national mobilisation of the resources of the earth?
