The Carterton Borough Council arc to be complimented for the great improvement brought about in the lighting of the Main Street, seven mercuryvapour lights having been erected. The work of installing the lights by the Wairarapa Power Board stall' has been practically completed. The men who have been engaged have had a very trying experience, working at the top of poles in wretched weather conditions. It is expected that the lights will be "livened” tonight. SNOW IN BACK COUNTRY VERY HEAVY FALL RECORDED. In conversation with a farmer from the backblocks of Martinborough, yesterday, the correspondent of the ‘Times-Age” was informed that snow in the back country beyond Martinborough had been very heavy, and that it must be 20 to 30 years since a fall was so severe. The farmer said that when he left, the county grader was at work clearing a track though the snow that fell on Monday night to a depth of 3 to 4 inches. Stock was experiencing a very bad time, and if the weather did not soon improve, lambing, which will begin in earnest shortly, will undoubtedly have a set back. COURT CASES FAIRLY LARGE LIST.
