IDEAL EDUCATION SYSTEM
An ideal which, he said, he had always cherished concerning the education of the young people of Britain was referred to by Sir Cyril Norwood, president of St John's College. Oxford, speaking at Harrogate College. He said he dreamt of the time, which must not be far distant, when every boy and girl would receive an elementary education until they were eleven and a-half; a continued education, secondary. for instance, until they were 16; a part-time education under discipline and control until they were 18; and. to end up, six months’ national service, which he hoped in the near future would not be military. “If we are ready and wise enough to bring up our young people like that." he added, "in the next 20 years we shall create such a nation as has never yet been seen."
