RACING CLUB’S YEAR
CLASH WITH GENERAL ELECTION DATE TOTALISATOR FIGURES AFFECTED., REPAIRS TO BUILDINGS. The annual report of the Masterton Racing Club for the past year states:— “It was most unfortunate for the club that the date fixed for the General Election, viz. Saturday. October 15. clashed with the dates allotted for our annual race meeting, viz. Thursday and , Saturday, October 13 and 15. Every endeavour was made to find other suitable dates later on in the season but it was found impossible to arrange a date which did not clash with other near fixtures, and in view of the fact that. several owners and trainers made representations to the club to endeavour to hold our meeting before the Wellington Racing Club's October fixture it was decided to race on Wednesday and Thursday, October 12 and 13 and in spite of the fact that we were deprived of our Saturday. the meeting was well supported by owners and the public, but as was expected the totalisator figures were down by £2.276 on the previous year’s figures. “Finance: After writing of depreciation. £154 7s lid, and spending £729 18s 9d on painting and carrying out necessary repairs to buildings the revenue accounts show a loss for the year amounting to £669 4s Id. All urgent repairs to buildings have now been carried out, and the club should not be saddled with further expenditure in this direction for some time to come. “Office bearers: The following nominations have been received for the respective offices of president, vice-presi-dents (2) and stewards <7l:—President. J M James: vice-presidents. C. J. Bennett and S. J. W. Gill: stewards: J. A. Betts, 11. L. Esau, J. Jameson. F. F Ballance, J. Mulvaney. N. Y. F. Whiteman. W. R. P. Cooper. As only the required number of nominaations have been received, a ballot will not be necessary, and those nominated will be duly elected at the annual general meeting. “This year the annual race meeting will be held on Thursday and Saturday. October 12 and 14. "All members will join with your executive in offering sympathy to the relatives of the late Messrs H. T. Hume and J. lorns. whose deaths have robbed the club of two most respected sup-' porters.” The report is signed on behalf of the executive by Mr J. M. James president.
