The House of Lords passed the third reading of the Prevention of Violence Bill and the House of Commons agreed to the Upper House amendments. The Royal Assent to the measure was given immediately. The Home Secretary, under the Act, has considered thirty cases and signed expulsion orders. The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Philip Game, and provincial chief constables from storm centres, discussed the detailed enforcement of the Act. FORESTALLING OUTRAGES STATEMENT BY HOME SECRETARY. ACTION BEING CONSIDERED IN IRELAND. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) RUGBY, July 28. The Home Secretary (Sir Samuel Hoare) in the House of Commons, said he had been told that had the Government two days ago had the powers now conferred by the Prevention of Violence Bill, it was very likely the Government might have forestalled one or other of the recent I.R.A. outrages. It is reported that Mr De Valera has called a special Caminet meeting in Dublin to consider a plan for immediate action against the I.R.A. extremeists in Eire and special legislation to deal with I.R.A. members deported from England. “PADDY REGAN’S DINNER” ATTEMPT TO MURDER DOCK WORKERS. WOMAN HANDS IN BOMB. (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON. July 28. A woman handed in a parcel to an eating house at the Birkenhead docks, saying: “This is Paddy Regan’s dinner.” An attendant, hearing ticking, opened the parcel and found a bomb timed to go off at 12.30 p.m.. when a hut full of workers would be having lunch.
