MATCHES IN POSSESSION
MINER FINED AT GREYMOUTH. WORK HELD UP. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, July 23. Valentine Harvey was lined £2 iCs in the Greymouth Magistrate’s Court today for having matches in hi:: possession in the Dobson mine on July 21. Defendant said that he was unaware that matches were in his poc.cet. Mr R. Ferner. 3.M.. said that it should be unnecessary to impress miners of the necessity of ensuring their own safety. Harvey had only been employed m '..he mine three weeks. As the result of the dismissal of Harvey by the manager last Friday tile miners refused to work and negotiations were deferred pending the re-1 suit of the eo’irf proceedings.
