BADMINTON

ANNUAL TOURNAMENT

OPENED N MASTERTON LAST NIGHT.

GOOD STANDARD OF PLAY

The Wairarapa Badminton Association's tilth annual championship and handicap meeting was commenced last night when a start was made on the handicap events. Despite the cold night, a good standard of play was witnessed.

The North Island champion, J. J. Payton. showed such striking form in his events last night, as to make him a hot favourite for the Wairarapa singles title. H. Dixon also played badminton of such a high standard, that a reduction in handicap may be made in regard to this player.

Misses Richards and Yates, off a low handicap, played good badminton to win their event.

Owing to the large number of games yet to be played, competitors are asked to be present .tonight at 6 o’clock or as near as possible to that hour. The results are as follow: — A GRADE Men’s Singles.
