Society will be held in the King's Theatre, Carterton, on Monday, August 7. Efforts are under way to make the event an even greater success than its predecessors. The combined committees are working hard for its success and the supper and other arrangements will be on a very elaborate scale. The indications are that there will be a large attendance. Patrons are asked to note the date, August 7. BOY SCOUTS CARD TOURNAMENT. Despite the wintry conditions prevailing last evening there was a good attendance at the weekly card tournament held under the jurisdiction of the Boy Scouts. The prizes were won as follows:—Ladies: Mrs Challis, 1; Mrs Pauling, 2. Men: S. Tawhai, 1; A. Moorcock, 2. Supper was provided. METHODIST CHURCH SILVER TREE SOCIAL. The Methodist Church’s annual effort in the form of a Silver Tree Social was held last evening, and in spite of the snow there was a good attendance. The Vujhurch Hall had been temporarily papered and decorated, and was well warmed by heaters, and an enjoyable lime was spent. A “tree-planting" competition created considerable interest, and mystery parcels were keenly purchased. Greytown Methodists provided a programme of items and the Ladies’ Guild served supper. The Silver Tree Crop supplemented by the parcels sale totalled ; over £2O, and it is expected that some 'ivho could not attend will by contributions advance this figure beyond last year's total of £24.
Building Society.
A meeting of the AVairarapa Terminating Building Society was held last night when a ballot was held for A6OO, the successful member being Mr J. A. Stevens. Carterton. It was decided to hold a ballot for £6OO and a sale of £6OO in four weeks’ time. Personal. Mr and Mrs W. S. Stevens, who have been on a holiday, returned to Carterton last evening. Mr and Mrs M. A. Ticchurst, of Rhodes Street. Carterton, have suffered a bereavement in the death of their infant daughter Beverley Gwen, which took place at a private hospital yesterday. The child was only eight old. The sympathy of a large circle of friends will be extended to the par-
ents in their bereavement. The interment will bo private. Mr C. E. Cook has had the misfortune to poison his right hand and in consequence will be away from his work lor a time. Taratahi Dairy Company. In an advertisement on Page 1 of today’s issue, it will bo seen that the Taratahi Dairy Coy Ltd is in liquidation and tenders are called, closing on August 4, for the purchase .and removal of 16 pig sties, etc.
