BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. OLD ANGLICAN CHURCH SITE TO BE IMPROVED. A meeting of the Masterton Beautifying Society v/as held last night. Those present were Dr Archer Hosking (president), A. J. Towns, F. C. Daniell, H. E. Gardner, H. M. A. Major and Ax. W. Reynolds. The chairman paid a tribute to the outstanding work done for the society by its late patron Mr C. E. Daniell. The secretary was instructed to forward a letter of sympathy to his family.
With regard to the old Anglican Church site in Church Street. MiMajor reported that the Diocesan Board had agreed to the society's proposals to clean up and beautify the site and had referred the matter to the vestry committee to meet the society r.n the ground in order to formulate proposals for its improvement. Mr Gardener stated that the borough engineer was desirous of carrying out beautifying improvements to the hospital end of the old suspension bridge, and requested the society's co-opera-tion. The society agreed to co-operate in the beautifying of a small area and £5 was authorised for expenditure thereon.
At the request of Mr F. C. Daniell it was decided to arrange a visit of inspection to the Wairarapa College grounds to view the improvements in tree planting lately carried out by the Parents’ Association.
The present rough weather had held up several reports and tours of inspection that the society had in view.
