HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT

NEED OF MORE MEMBERS.

VIGOROUS CAMBAIGN URGED

The desirability of increasing the membership of the society was emphasised at the annual meeting' last night of the Masterton Horticultural Society.

The retiring president, Mr H. E. Either, and several other speakers agreed that a determined effort should be made to secure new members. In the past year there had been a considerable increase, but the society was looking forward to a very much bigger membership, so as to make it a real, solid society. All members were asked to do their best to secure new members.

Mr Either referred with considerable satisfaction to the success of the garden competition instituted by the society during the past year. It had been a wonderful success in every way and had appealed to the public generally. The competition was a practical means of helping citizens to cultivate good gardens and he expressed the hope that all who had been associated with the garden competition would become members of the society. Mr Either thanked the donors of the prizes. Messrs , Jordan. Borthwick, Esau and Needham and also the three judges. Messrs Sturgeon. Murray and Woollett.

Officers were elected as follow:— Patron. Mrs B. V. Skeet: president. Mr H. L. Esau: vice-presidents. Lady Berry. Mesdames W. H. Booth. G. G. Tolhurst. M. G. Scharnweber, H. G. Moser; Messrs H. E.
