ESPERANTO
MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. PUBLICATION OF NEW BOOKS. There was an excellent attendance of members at the weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club held last evening in the clubroom. Municipal Buildings, and over which Mr A. Dewar, D.8.E.A., presided. Correspondence in Esperanto received during the week and presented by the secretary, Mr W. H. King, comprised a letter from Hungary and the official organ of the Universal Esperanto Association, "Esperanto.” Announcing the publication of a number of new books in Esperanto. Mr King said all lovers of Dickens and all Esperantists will be glad to learn that "Pickwick Papers" by Charles Dickens will shortly be published in Esperanto by a Dutch firm. In addition, "Hans Christian Andersen: His Life and His Works" has recently been published by a firm in Hong Kong and has been favourably reviewed by critics; and an Esperanto song book, "The Nightingale.” a second edition comprising 32 pages, has also been released from Holland. The club devoted considerable time to the further practical application of Esperanto, and in this direction made substantial progress. During the proceedings. Mr A. G. Wiltshire contributed a reading in the international language entitled "Lingvoj en la Filipina j Insularo” (Languages in the Phillipine | Islands). I
The meeting concluded with the singing in Esperanto of "Nun Venas la Hor” (Now in the Hour.)
