EXPORT CREDITS
COMPLAINT BY OPPOSITION LEADER. PRIME MINISTER'S REPLY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Dissatisfaction with the method adopted by the Government for the. announcement last Friday of the arrangements made between the British Government and the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, concerning the granting of export credits and possible relaxation of the import restrictions, was expressed by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Hamilton, in an urgent question which he addressed to the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, in the House of Representatives yesterday.
Mr Hamilton asked the Prime Minister why, with Parliament in session, he did not make a statement to the House on Friday outlining the conclusions of the negotiations and giving all possible details so that members would have it first-hand instead of reading a paitial statement in the evening papers. Mr Hamilton also asked when the House would have an opportunity of discussing the subject.
‘‘ln the first place,” Mr Savage replied, ‘‘the action taken by the Government was strictly in lino with an arrangement entered into between Mr Nash and the British Ministers by which the decisions were to be published simultaneously in Great Britain and New Zealand. We have lived up to that to the letter. In the second place, members will have ample opportunity to discuss details when the Budget com.es along, and they will not have very long to wait. In any case, the question has been pretty thoroughly discussed, even without the details.”
