Mr and Mrs W. J. Jordan entertained 700 visiting New Zealanders at a reception at the Mayfair Hotel, a London cablegram states. Messrs Hodgkiss Ramsden, Weir, Dawson (Wellington), Chitty (Christchurch) and McNaulty (Auckland) are visitors to Masterton and are staying at the Prince of Wales Hotel. The Rev E. O. Blamires (formerly of Masterton) who recently underwent a serious operation in a Christchurch hospital, was welcomed home by the Wellington Rotary Club yesterday. Dr J. F. Staton, an examiner of the Royal Academy Schools of Music, London, arrived at Auckland by the Niagara, accompanied by Mrs Staton. He will conduct examinations in New Zealand, and will leave in December. The death occurred on Monday afternoon of Mr F. Perrin, of Hastings. At one time he was postmaster in Hastings and he was also secretary to the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, from which position he retired a few years ago.
Following a long illness, Mr Dennie Donovan died in Hastings, says a Press Association message. He was a wellknown business man and a prominent figure in racing circles. Mr Donovan was a successful rider for several years. He owned and raced several horses, including Kohu, winner of the Great Northern Hurdles. The death occurred at Waipukurau on Monday of Mr N. E. H. Hubbard, brother of Mr A. T. P. Hubbard, of Masterton. The late Mr Hubbard, who was 57 years of age, had been in failing health for the past eight months. He was born in Christchurch and prior to the war engaged in farming in Marlborough and Hawke's Bay. He saw considerable service in France during the war and on his return to New Zealand he joined the Lands Department as supervisor of soldiers' farms at Invercargill. About 12 years ago he was transferred to Hawke’s Bay in a Similar capacity, and was stationed at Napier for two or three years before taking up his residence in Waipukurau. He was a member of the R.S.A. He leaves a widow and three children, the eldest being 15 years of age! Another brother, Mr F. W. Hubbard, resides in Palmerston North. The funeral is taking place at Waipukurau today.
