PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP. WON BY MR & MRS H. H. YOUNG. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Results of the New Zealand pairs championship tournament conducted by the New Zealand Contract Bridge Association were announced yesterday. From 62 pairs which competed from the main centres in New Zealand. the following secured the leading places:—

Mr and Mrs H. H. Young (Wellington), 1572?, match points; Mrs H. O. Taylor and Mrs T. W. Blennerhassett (Wanganui), 15001; Messrs N. Allan and L. Pickering (Dunedin), 1478; Mrs G. Black and G. B. Wilson (Dunedin), 14671; Mrs Laver and Miss Cracroft Wilson (Christchurch), 1429; Messrs R. K. Wylie and C. N. Tucker (Auckland), 1394; Mr and Mrs J. J. Ardagh (Christchurch). 13711; Mrs W. E. Rawson and Mrs G. F. Jackson (Wellington), 13711; Dr. and Mrs W. J. Hutchison (Wellington), 1369; Mrs Morgan and Miss Bromley Cocks (Christchurch), 1363; Mr and Mrs 11. S. Wilkinson (Wellington), 13611; Mrs C. L. Petry and Mrs Hornibrook (Wellington), 13461; Mrs Geddis and Mrs Pipe (Christchurch). 13401; Mr and Mrs Ashley Duncan (Wellington), 13351; Messrs Colbeck and Yock (Auckland). 13321.

This inaugurated the Now Zealand pairs championship, and Mr and Mrs H. 11. Young arc the first New Zealand pairs champions and the first holders of the championship cup presented by Mr Gordon Allard. Los Angeles. The number of pairs competing was limited, and they were selected by elimination rounds held in the centres. The tournament was played under the Mitchell movement with match point scoring over four sessions each of 21 hands, played in all centres, so that al! clubs had played the same 84 hands when the tournament concluded.
