STRONG STAND
URGED BY SIR ROGER KEYES JAPAN’S PRESENT NAVAL STRENGTH. CONSEQUENCES OF FORCING CONFLICT. LONDON, July 22. Admiral of the Fleet Sir F *°9 e '' Keyes, speaking in Norwood, declared that if Britain made it clear that she would most strongly retaliate Japan would not dare to force a conflict with the British Empire. Japan’s navy in eastern waters was at present infinitely more powerful than Britain’s, but Japan must be aware that if German) forced a war with the British Empire she would be overwhelmingly defeated, after which the Rising Sun of Japan would be eclipsed as surely as night followed day.
