PORT FOR YACHTS
FACILITIES ON THE SEINE. A section .of the most picturesque part of the Seine on i,ts way through the capital has been declared open as a port for yachts. The new port for pleasure craft is situated on the light bank, between the Place de la Concorde and the Alexandre 111 bridge. Everything for the convenience of French and foreign yachtsmen has been provided, and safe moorings are available right in the centre of the city in surroundings without their equal. The vast Place de la Concorde is at one end of the port, with the Concorde bridge, built, in part, of the stones of the Bastille, and at the other, the single-span Alexandre 111 bridge, with its corner pylons, statutory and gilded groups. All along the banks at this point arc tall trees Side by side with the moorings for the bigger boats there are landing stages for the smaller river craft and the kayak canoes which in the last two years have won such popularity that they are to be seen on every river of France. The new port owes its existence in great part to the Touring Club de France, an organisation modelled on the Cyclist Touring Club. The Touring Club de France numbers 260.000 members.
