MASTERTON WEST SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
PLANS FOR NEW BUILDING DISCUSSED.
At the monthly meeting of the Masterton West School Committee those present were the chairman, Mr F. Shearer and Messrs Rogers, Gilbert, Tooby, Graham, Walker and Batty. Apologies were received from Messrs Griggs and Baird. The chairman extended a welcome to the new headmaster, Mr J. P. Farrell. Mr Farrell suitably replied.
Plans for the new school at West and alterations to the side school were fully discussed. It was generally felt that the experience obtained at other schools recently built would be a good guide in planning the new building. Several alterations were suggested. It was considered that a general discussion with the architect would be beneficial. The chairman stated that he had been assured it would be the most up-to-date school in New Zealand. Accounts amounting to £3B 5s 9d were passed.
A vote of thanks was extended to Mr Savage for the donation of sand for the infants’ playground and to the Trust Lands Trust for a grant. The headmaster reported that the roll number stood at 353. Standard two pupils had gained Ist, 2nd, 3rd and 4th prizes at the South Taranaki Winter Show.
It/ was decided to plant trees near the baths on Arbour Day.
Regret was expressed that no bicycle shelters had been provided at the College. The secretary was instructed to write to the Education Department regarding the position.
