ACT OF MERCY

WELSH DOCKERS SAVE SPANISH EXILES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON. July 20. Welsh dock workers intervened to save the lives of two Spanish republican officers who were condemned to death in Spain in June. The officers broke jail and stowed away in a British ship going to Cardiff, but were jailed there pending their deportation. Later the officers leaped out of the ship which was taking them to Spain and swam ashore in the Bristol Channel, where dock workers gave them aid and sent them to a welfare home. Arrangements are being made to send them to Mexico.
