MODERN BRIDGE
OPENED BY MINISTER IN GORE.
PIONEER OF 1868 PRESENT.

Constructed of reinforced concrete at a cost of £9,588 and replacing a 71-year-old wooden suspension structure, Mataura’s new modern, single-span bridge in the centre of the township, was declared open -by the Hon. R. Semple (Minister of Public Works) today, in the presence of Southland members of Parliament, representatives of local bodies and several hundred people, including Mrs James Sinclair, of Oarnaru, who was present at the opening of the old bridge in 1868.
