CRACK RIFLE SHOT

FORMER WANGANUI RESIDENT. PERFORMANCES IN AUSTRALIA. A past New Zealand rifle champion. Mr E. S. King, formerly of Wanganui, but now living in Melbourne, is still shooting well. Mr King left Wanganui three years ago to reside in Melbourne, and joined the famous Melbourne Cri cket Club’s rifle club. This club includes in its membership several King’s Prize winners and many, who at different times, have won State champion ■ ships. One of its members is P. Povey, who has won seven State and King's Prizes, besides having been successful at Bisley and in Canada.

In the Melbourne Cup championship this year, Mr King tied with D. R. Davies and won the shoot off at 900 yards witn a score of 23 out of a pos sible of 25. Some time ago Davies won the King’s Prize for South Australia. Reports from Melbourne show that Mr King has scored no fewer than nine possibles since January, and is maintaining his reputation as a front-rank rifle shot. One of his King’s Prize efforts probably has not been equalled in New Zealand. This was when he scored a 48 at 500 yards and 49 at each of the 300, 600, 800, and 900 yard ranges when winning the Taranaki championship at New Plymouth some years ago.
