LOST PLANE

PRELIMINARY INQUIRY ON ACHILLES. FINDING TO BE FORWARDED TO COMMODORE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A preliminary investigation into the capsize and sinking of the Walrus amphibian plane of the Achilles, off Aitutaki, on July 15, was held aboard, Captain Parry presiding, states a radio message received by the Press Association.

Evidence was given in camera by Pilot-Lieutenant Sykes and Leading Telegraphist Trent, the only two who were in the plane at the time, and by Commander Neane. officer in charge of the cruiser at the time, and other witnesses of the sudden accident. The finding will be sent to Commodore Rivett-Carnac, who will decide if it is necessary to hold a naval board of inquiry into the unfortunate accident.
