MINIATURE RIFLES WEEKEND COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The weekly competitions of the Car terton Miniature Rifle Club was not so well attended last evening owing to the unpleasant weather conditions. In the circumstances good scores were made. The following are the results: — Club Aggregate and Press Cup: Rex Porter 100; W. Press. R. Taticher, L. DeLacey. R. Hawker, Geo Sewell, E. Jones, K. Townsend, L. Fitzgerald, S. Dwane. R. Ordish 99 each; A. J. King 98; A. Ordish 97; L. Tunnicliffe 96: C. J. DeLacey, R. Meyrick 95; L. Chew 93. Ladies’ Aggregate and Gladful Cup: Miss J. Lorenzen. Miss Hamer, Miss Freer 99: Miss A. McPhee 98; Mrs DeLacey 92. For Keltie and Co’s trophy L. A. DeLacey and R. Taucher' have tied with a score of 299 and will fire off for the prize next week. The club badges for the week were won by Miss J. Lorenzen and Messrs Porter and S. Dwane. ' LATE MR H. A. BICK FUNERAL AT MANGATAINOKA. ■' The funeral of the late Mr HenryArthur Bick, of Pahiatua, took place yesterday afternoon, the burial taking place at the Mangatainoka cemetery. The cortege was a large’ and represen tative one. At St Peter’s Church the Rev Mr J. Button conducted a short service, the church being crowded. Mr Button also conducted the service at the graveside. The funeral address o 1 the Manchester Unity Order of Odd, Fellows was delivered by P.D.G.M. Bro C. J. DeLacey. There were eighteen pall bearers representing various institutions, including R.S.A., Frontiersmen, Sports bodies, and Odd Fellows lodges Wellington District, Carterton lodge (of whom deceased was a member) and Loyal Mangatainoka Lodge (which Lodge he had been up to the time of his death the secretary for 14 years). The pall bearers were: from the residence to the Church, Messrs E. Osborne, A. Cox, L. Watson, R. Yewen, A. H. Gray, S. Devonport; from Church gates to cemetery gates. Messrs W. Fulton, T. Daysh. E. L. Harvey, A. P. Jensen, S| • Mcßae, G. Kent; from cemetery gates to the grave, Bros C. J. DeLacey, R. P. Wakelin. (Carterton), R. Baikie- (Masterton);- A. W. Hamilton, W. L. Tattle, and G. Haines (Mangatainoka Lodge). Many beautiful wreaths covered the coffin. The Wellington District officers, Bros E. W. Guise, F. A. Davis and A. J. B. Foote, were among the mourners. LOSS OF STOCK FEARED MAY HAVE DIED IN RANGES. It is reported that dairy farmers fear that their cows, which they have grazing on bush country in the Tararua ranges, have died during the heavy snowstorms that have occurred during the past week. One farmer, who went into the ranges it few days ago, reports that the snow in the gullies is manyfeet deep hence it is feared that the stock may have perished. It is impossible in the circumstances to venture very far into the ranges. BADMINTON MATCH WIN FOR CARTERTON. Playing in the State Theatre the Carterton Club defeated Red Star by seven matches to three, fourteen sets to six, and 247 points to 219. All games were very close and the standard of play was high. At the conclusion of the match Mr Roff of the Red Star Club thanked the Carterton Club for the very enjoyable evening and the excellent supper arranged by the ladies. He hoped that a return match would be arranged very shortly. Mr Tavener, on behalf of the Carterton Club, suitably replied. The following are the detailed result. Carterton players being mentioned first in each instance:— Men’s singles:—Dwane and Reynolds beat Peterson and Roff. 15/12. 15/19: Worsfold and Taverner beat Lambourne and Ross. 15/13. 12/15. 15/10; Mackie and Peters beat Wilmhurst and Moss, 15/8. 15/11. Combined doubles: Dwane and Miss Bull beat Roff and Miss Watson, 8/11, 11/6, 11/10; Worsfold and Miss Peters beat Lambourne and Miss Holtham. Uiiii/8, 11/9; Reynolds and Miss Knutson beat Moss and Miss Harrington, 11/8, 7/11. 11/9; Taverner and Miss Barber beat Wilmhurst and Miss Malmo, 11/5, 5/11. 11/10: Mackie and Miss Crawley lost to Peterson and Miss Holtham, 6/11, 7/11. Ladies' doubles. —Misses Peters and Knutson lost to Misses Malmo and Watson. 13/15; Misses Barber and Crawley lost to Misses Holtham and Harrington. 2/15.
